I am welfare focused and am certified in Recognizing the 24 Equine Pain Behaviors by Dr. Sue Dyson via Equitopia Center (above). I believe that understanding and recognizing behavior plays a part in every aspect of horses, including their nutrition.
I have been riding and working with horses since I was 6 years old, and I fell in love with feeding and nutrition early on. I began my horse-career as a typical barn rat, then a hunter turned eventer, spent much of my time pleasure riding and being a ground person traveling to competitions with friends as well as being lucky enough to travel with one of my current horses during his career, I've worked at farms as staff, I have even dabbled in teaching, and have now turned my focus to non-ridden work with my personal horses and nutrition with the public.
I worked at Dover Saddlery for 5 years, becoming our store's resident supplement expert. I also spent nearly a year as the Saddle Consultant for the store, as well as continuing my education with the North American Saddlery School's Intro to Saddle Fitting 2-day course in 2021.
At home I have a 29 year old Quarab pony with PPID (doing fantastically!) who I have known for 20 years, a mini in her suspected 20s also with PPID, a 17 year old OTTB with Kissing Spine/arthritis/etc., a big bulky 17 year old Haflinger who allows me to practice my weight management skills frequently, and another 13 year old OTTB who retired with me after his eventing career.
I have had many unique experiences both working and riding at many facilities as well as running my own, where I have dealt with performance horses, race horses, young horses, seniors, weight management for both loss and gain, injuries, disease management, pregnancy, illnesses, toxicities, and more. I am looking forward to using my knowledge and extensive horse experience to help you and your horse find the best balanced diet possible to lead a long, healthy, happy life, live up to their full potential, and to help you understand the Whys and Hows in the process.
I also have a related background in exotic animal and small livestock nutrition after being the Care Manager for more than 110 domestic and exotic animals and livestock, including reptiles, for 2 years.
Feel free to take a look at the SAMPLE diet analysis and intake forms, and of course you can reference the sample forms when filling yours out.
